Review of Revolutionary Road (2008) by Jonathan C — 09 Nov 2011
This film is, first and foremost, a real downer. It's almost too much to bear, and sort of masks what is great about it. Sam Mendes does like torturing his characters, and this was sort of an American Beauty for the '50s, where everyone feels trapped and the more they struggle the more entangled they become in their choices, and the more they despise themselves.
But despite that, the performances and script were very strong, and the film does make you think about your life, and the choices you've made. It might also make you really glad it's not the 1950's anymore.
Anyhow, I thought it was a very good film if unrelentingly grim.
