Review of Revolutionary Road (2008) by Justin V — 09 Jan 2012
What a downer of a film. don't get me wrong - this is an excellent movie that is well-acted and well thought out. but this is certainly not one to watch with a bunch of friends if you want to have a good time.
but that's what sets director sam mendes apart from other filmmakers. all of his films, from the oscar-winning american beauty to the iraq war film jarhead to tom hanks' darkest role in road to perdition, examine the human condition.
this covers territory familiar in american beauty as the wants of a typical family are overshadowed by its needs. both leo dicaprio and kate winslet yearn for freedom from their boring domestication but cannot seem to find the right way out.
an interesting and stunning depiction of what can go wrong even if one seemingly has the perfect life. married couples who are looking to settle down, you have been warned...
