Review of Return to Sleepaway Camp (2008) by Jackalqueen ~ — 27 Oct 2008
T's summer at Camp Manabe and some of the most obnoxious, annoying children have obviously been sent away by parents desperate to get rid of them for a while. The tales of Angela's days at Camp Arawak are still being told but these kids are so busy tormenting Alan, a mentally disturbed boy, that they don't pay much attention to them. The problem is that Alan is also a thoroughly nasty and annoying character so part of you feels that he deserves most of the treatment he gets.
This is another film where you know exactly what you are going to get before you watch it. In this case, sometimes literally because there are a couple scenes which are almost identical to scenes from the original film. The killer is disguised throughout most of the film but it is completely obvious who it is from the very first moment you see them.
Pamela Springsteen doesn't reprise her role as Angela but Felissa Rose, from the original Sleepaway Camp, does. Paul DeAngelo also reprises his role as her brother Ronnie.
It's the worst sequel by far. You feel nothing for any of the characters so seeing them killed provokes almost no response at all other than relief and, with the scenes taken from the original, this feels almost like they started making a remake and then changed their minds.
I really wouldn't recommend this film at all, other than watching it to complete the set. They must expect it to be popular though because another sequel is planned for 2010. I hope it's better than this.
