A good movie night thriller or movie marathon night with friends which impressed me a lot in the trailers but not quite sold to it after watching it. Rosamund Pike and Shiloh Fernandez gave a stellar performance about a story of rape and how to move on from a traumatic experience and in the end, how to avenge it.
The story of Return to Sender has a lot of promised on its trailers as a good thriller movie and it proved to be one. But seeing it in totality or summary of the whole film, it has lame plot and its story need improvement.
The characterization was good which strengthens Return to Sender's appeal and entertainment value. Pike and Fernandez gave enough justices to their characters and both were notable even Nick Nolte as Mitchell Wells.
It also suffers confusion of theme between thriller and psychological film. Return to Sender has the thrill and tension of a good thriller movie but becomes boring because of its prolonged and slow progress of its plots and dialogues.
I would be better if it capitalizes on its theme as a psychological movie.
