Review of Return to Paradise (1998) by Jennifer H — 18 Mar 2006
Return to Paradise is such an amazing, powerful film. I really loved it, and the acting was great by all. I adore both Joaquin Phoenix and Vince Vaughn so it was great to see them both in a movie. :).
So, I'm taking my question right out of the movie. What would you do if you travelled to a foreign country, got involved in things you shouldn't have been doing, left, and found out a few years later that someone you met was about to be killed for something the three of you did? Run on sentence, sorry. :o Would you go back, sparing their life, or would you stay, knowing that they are going to die without you confessing to being a part of the crime? It is a difficult question to answer. I'd probably go back, because I know I couldn't live with myself if I knew someone died partly because of me. But what if you had a family? That makes it that much harder, because you wouldn't only be messing up your life, but the life of your family. It is such a hard question to answer, and really we can only hope we never do have to deal with being in such a situation.
It would be hard, to give up several years of your life, and living in misery for another person. Not everyone could do it. I think someone would have to be placed in said situation before they could accurately answer it. Because saying you'll do something, and really doing it are two separate things of course.
