Review of Return to Oz (1985) by Rajneel S — 03 Jun 2008
Highly disjointed and awkward, but atmospherically stunning and on-the-money, "sequel" to the "Wizard of Oz" makes for a nonsensical experience, but one worthwhile watching for anyone interested in the material.
The film was hailed for being "closer" to L. Frank Baum's original tone for his Oz books and gave loads of kids nightmares in the 1980's, but this film will require stamina to sit through and is best regarded as a fascinating, flawed artifact rather than a coherent film.
If you liked "Dark Crystal' and "Labyrinth" then give this a try.
