Review of Return to Oz (1985) by Cassia K — 17 Oct 2008
So I'm in awe of how freaky this movie is. I didn't know about it until a friend mentioned how scarred she was by it as a young child - so of course I had to see it. The first 20 minutes alone - Dorothy in the asylum for shock treatments - is one of the scariest things I've ever seen.
And those Wheelers?! And Jack the pumpkin head and the psychedelic palace of the Nome king and Mombi's heads and Osma showing up in the mirror ... Awesome. But no, not for kids.
