Review of Return to Oz (1985) by Jonathan C — 11 Nov 2008
I know that the musical version of the Wizard from Oz is a clasic and to make a sequal not even close to the look or feel of it would be horrible. well folks this is not a sequal to the movie but an adaptation of the sequals to the first BOOK. with that said....
This was a surprisingly fantastic movie., which truely made me feel like a kid again. Not surprisly though is the fact that it is very dark for a kids movie (because it was made in the 80's and this seems to be a recurring theme in kids movies like The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth). the only real problem I had with the movie is that it assumed way too much that you know the story of the wizard of oz and this confuses the viewer since none of the reocurring chharacters look even remotely like the original. (especailly the tin man and scarecrow. the scarecrow looked well......special).
All in all a great movie to watch with the kids or reminese about your childhood.
