Review of Return to Oz (1985) by Baurushan J — 19 Jan 2012

I don't even care for this film because it was that bad! Let me just talk about the original Wizard of Oz. It was released in 1939, it still remains one of the best movies ever made as well as the best live action kids movie ever made because it was fantasising, pure brilliance, the actors own the roles, the film showed 100% of it's pure art showing how movies should be made today, the technicolor used in most of the film was absolutely amazing and the songs were memorable and breathtaking and finally the practical effects like the make up and costumes were so realistic that I'm still trying to figure out how they made the scarecrow with practical effects every time his straw came off or he was lying around in pieces.

Now let's talk about the shitty as hell unholy abomination known as Return To Oz. Here the main character playing Dorothy Gale can't even feel Judy Garland's shoes and to add insult to injury, the character looks younger than she was in the first film.

The scarecrow, the tin man and the lion look nothing like they were compared to the first film. The film apparently is supposed to be darker than the first film which is another reason why I hate this film so bad! The first film was the ultimate best live action kids film because it had elements that had brought us up during our childhood.

This film failed miserably because it buttfucks everything the original did by adding in darker elements so now anyone who is a Wizard of Oz fan is upset. There's some random new girl who frequently hangs around with the new Dorothy, Toto who is Dorothy's pet dog who is another main character in the first film is hardly seen in this until the very end, the original Wizard Of Oz is nowhere to be seen and they don't explain what happened to him, some new characters are invented like this clockwork guy named Tik Tok and an alternative scarecrow character named Jack Pumpkinhead and finally some random bitch plays the new femme fatale and she's just horrendous.

She's the main reason why I said this movie is buttfucked by adding in dark elements to the film. I hate this film so much so I give it a 2/10.
