Review of Return to Oz (1985) by Ben C — 06 Dec 2013
Man this movie was fucking nuts. It literally made me uncomfortable just watching this film. Maybe it's the strange 80's vibe, or maybe it's the fact that the movie is super super dark and not happy, but I just could not get into this film.
The movie takes place 6 months after the original film, but it's considered a loose sequel. Dorothy sounds crazy to her aunt and uncle so she's sent to an insane asylum. She escapes and returns to Oz and runs into some pretty crazy shit.
Newcomers are Jack the pumpkin, another tin guy (that needs to be wound up), a moose head and a chicken. Yeah you read that right. Anyways, Dorothy runs into some pretty creepy spots including a witch that switches head and a mountain demon.
Overall, I'm just not into these kind of films. It reminded me of The Neverending Story which is a movie that as a kid I remember never wanting to be in a situation like that. I would dream of blowing up the Death Star, but talking to a fucking mountain? No way Jose.
This movie reminded me of the crazy nightmares kids have and put on film. I say check it out if your curious if not stay away!
