Review of Return to Oz (1985) by Carter R — 30 May 2014
Return to Oz was a bit of an oddball. It sacrificed the family friendly, sugary sweet tone of the first movie and replaced it with a darker, more surreal one. If you thought Oz had a screw loose in the original, you haven't seen Return to Oz.
However, even with its child scarring visuals and disturbing vision of Oz, the movie manages to thrill, and it finds itself utterly compelling in its storytelling and world. Oh, and did I mention the fantastic stop motion visuals? Return to Oz is a gem.
