Review of Resurrecting the Champ (2007) by Joe L — 01 Jun 2009
This hidden gem from 2007 has a strong cast ranging from Josh Hartnett and Samuel L. Jackson. While the story starts off by Hartnett's character, Erik Kernan Jr., befriending a homeless man who calls himself the "Champ" played by Jackson.
"Champ" later reveals to Kernan that he is Bob Satterfield, a boxer thought to have died twenty years ago. The two grow a friendship and Kernan gets a chance to write an article about the once big star in a popular magazine.
Once the story is published, Kernan gets huge praise but its revealed that "Champ" really isn't Satterfield but a boxer that Satterfield had beaten in a match a while back. Now being on the other side of the media, Kernan tries to make things better especially with Satterfield's adult son who was written about wrongly in the piece.
The film really represents that you never know the true story until you get all the facts and have them 100% correct. It also represents some vivid positives and negatives of the journalism spectrum. A film that suprised me and had a good bit of acting.
Go ahead and rent this on DVD.
