Review of Restrepo (2010) by Jessica M — 14 Mar 2012
I wished the Restrepo documentary was more educational for audiences about why we're in Afghanistan and what al-Qaeda and the Taliban is. I felt left in the dark about the politics and just saw soldiers shooting and getting shot at senselessly without clear direction or a plan.
I viewed USA causalities and innocent village people and children killed or injured without a good explanation. To a layperson or non-military clear communication of purpose was lacking in this documentary.
If the Documentary was filmed and directed for soldiers then perhaps it makes sense. However, as a civilian I found the film ambiguous, poorly directed, and would have liked to have seen some investigative reporting and a background of Afghanistan laid out in the story line as a foundation to build upon.
I think this would have made a more powerful, intellectually stimulating, and engaging documentary with stronger intelligence fed to the public.
