Review of Restoration (1995) by Jake W — 09 Aug 2009
With my favortie actor (Robert Downey, Jr.) in the leading role and one of my favorite actresses (Meg Ryan) in a supporting role, I thought this English period piece would be worth my time... it wasn't. This movie wasted one hundred and eighteen minutes of my life... well, considering that I stopped and paused the film multiple times because it was so boring, I actually wasted about an entire day on this movie.
I can't really explain the story because there's not much there to begin with, but here goes... Robert Merivel (Robert Downey, Jr., who puts in great work as always but it's an awful movie nonetheless) is a 17th century English physician who saves the life of someone close to King Charles II (Sam Neill, in a meh performance). Then he marries Charles' mistress (Polly Walker, who wasn't anything special). From then on, Restoration is just one huge question: "What's going on???".
If you can't tell already, I don't liek this movie. It was actually painful to watch.
Not recommended.
