Review of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016) by Jason M — 23 Jul 2017
If this wasn't touted as the "final chapter" I wouldn't hate it as much as I do. It starts with completely jumping the "filmic" gun with the climatic events of its predecessor simply disappearing in the abyss and intsead focuses on delivering it as the most unjustified fashion acceptable - exposition.
It brings back only three characters from the entire franchise boasting a whopping five films before it, in what's meant to be the final and biggest outing and ultimately looks and feels like the cheapest.
Performances are awful from the new additions. Rose simply isn't upto scratch with a performance that rests solely on her cringeworthy smile. All others are forgettable and most disappointingly cheap.
The edit throughout is choppy and downright epileptic, it never gives it audience time to both breath or enjoy. Then the "twist", which for some reason is added to just completely contradict its own mythology.
