Review of Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008) by Manny B — 18 Jan 2009
It was nice to see zombies back in the RE universe and good to see Claire Redfield (Voiced by Alyson Court, who also played her in RE2 and Code: Veronica) and Leon Kennedy (Voiced by Paul Mercier, who also played him in RE4) kicking zombie ass together again. We even get a cameo from Ingrid Hunnigan from RE4. The good news is that it's pretty faithful to the RE games. Unfortunately, that also happens to be its weak point.
To paraphrase Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw of Zero Punctuation fame, one of the Resident Evil series' trademarks is that the games take themselves very seriously despite having the most atrociously written stories and dialogue. Degeneration doesn't break this tradition. The animation is on par with the cutscenes in RE4. So what we pretty much have here is a Resident Evil game with all of the cheesiness and none of the gameplay.
If you're a diehard Resident Evil fan, I'd say rent it. Otherwise, it's probably not worth your time.
