Review of Resident Evil: Damnation (2012) by Kyle E — 25 Sep 2012
Resident Evil: Damnation is a very loose sequel to the 2008 CGI movie Degeneration, and for the most part it lives up to my expectations of being a halfway decent movie. But at the end I had to ask myself what the point of this entire movie actually was? There's a pretty major plot twist here that will have any diehard Resident Evil fan scratching their head, and its something that changes a bit of continuity with the series.
But to be honest, I don't really know where this movie fits into continuity anyways. Leon's back here, and this time he's on a mission in a small Eastern Europe country to check into rumors of a B.
O.W. outbreak, not the most original plot idea by far for this series. As you can expect, things go haywire, and Leon has to save the day. The thing that has always impressed me about these CGI movies is that they get the voice actors from the games to voice their characters here, so that is always top notch.
The CGI is really tremendous here too, but at the end of the day, too many scenes are focused on throw away dialogue and other then Leon and Ada Wong, you won't care about any of these new characters.
The Resident Evil CGI movies have always been strictly for the hardcore fans, and Damnation is no exception to that rule.
