Review of Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) by Antonio A — 13 Sep 2010

I was waiting for the sequel to see if Milla, Screen Gems and Davis Films could out do the original, and they did. The movie right off the start gets you into the current status of the evil Umbrella Corp right as we left them in the first.

"We're going to reopen the Hive", and they do just to release the virtually industructable T-Virus zombies out into the fragile and vulnerable streets of Raccoon City. I think to help the audience with getting into this movie they went for more of a pure pull from the games bringing many characters that are from the Resident Evil series.

Since to be honest thats who they are truely making these movies for. But new people to the RE world can still enjoy. Jill Valentine, Carlos Olivera, and Nicholai make appearances and help our original character Alice in getting out the virus infested city.

Making a bargin with another RE game character Dr. Ashford (RE Code Veronica) to save his daughter that is trapped in her school. Completing this task insn't easy with the one of the biggest bad guys from the series is trying to hunt down the team, NEMESIS.

I think by using these characters they cure what many RE fans complained about in the first movie as a lack of connection to the games. Some of the effects and camera angles used in the movie is directly borrowed from the game.

With the cast blending very well, and with the quick whips of comic relief from Mike Epps it couldn't get any better. This movie grabs you from start to end and leaves you wanting RE 3 cause it leaves so much unanswered.

This is the best video game to silver screen conversion to date. I highly recomend picking this up, RE fan or not.
