Review of Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010) by Jeffrey T — 21 Jan 2012
Simply awful. The entire movie is just a vehicle for 3D set piece, which technically still look good on 2D Blu-ray but are just so obviously ripped off straight from the Matrix movies it's almost painful to watch.
There were times I was expecting bad-guy Wesker to call Alice "Mr. Anderson", he apes Hugo Weaving's Agent Smith so much. This movie advances the Resident Evil story mythos about 5 minutes forward and is so full of cliches (the selfish movie producer?! Wow!!) and ridiculous plot holes (a YAK-52 airplane never needs to be refueled! Energy crisis solved!) you can probably watch the next movie without seeing this one and not miss a thing.
Yes, its a movie with zombies, but guns should still be reloaded on occasion. And finally, if the Umbrella Corporation has wiped out most of the Earth's population, how do they continue to make money? Build more underground lairs? Get people to work for them? Just saying.
