Review of Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010) by Dan D — 05 Dec 2012
I've been a fan of the first and third Resident Evil movies and didn't expect all that much from the fourth installment of the franchise. The big thing going for it is the fact its the first video game movie to be in 3D.
The movie itself is unintentionally funny and flat out dumb at times but that shouldn't be a surprise with this franchise. Some of the action is pretty weak but some is badass like the fight with the axeman.
I'm not gonna bother comparing this to the very very popular fourth installment in the video game franchise because the movie series doesn't follow the games in the least bit, also there were more than five Resident Evil games, most of them were shit.
The 3D was pretty cool, it was gimmicky but it worked. It wasn't as good as something like Piranha or My Bloody Valentine but for what you were expecting, you shouldn't be dissapointed in it. If you walk in you know what you should be expecting, a silly action film that while is weak at times, keeps you entertained.
I still think Extinction was the best one out of the movie franchise. Should there be another one? Well, there kind of has to be. Make one more, have Alice destroy Umbrella, wrap it up, this one really wasn't even that necessary and gave us little to no vital information.
This is something you can check out on DVD but if you are able to see it in theaters, I say check it out. The story is fine, the action is pretty cool and the 3D is quite effective. If Machete isn't playing at your theater, why not check this one out?
