Review of Resident Evil (2002) by Chris S — 15 Feb 2011
Surprisingly builds up a lot of tension in the unpredictable and unsettling first act. Then goes on to do what was expected, and does it well. Nowhere near as poor as critical reception suggests. Not every film needs to be potential Oscar winning material. Films should be every bit as much about escapism, world building and distraction - otherwise all we will have is desperately contrived Kings Speech-alikes, released just in time for the awards season.
A round of applause for film makers who don't take themselves too seriously.
