Review of Reservation Road (2007) by David H — 03 Aug 2008
Reservation Road casts Joaquin Phoenix as the grief stricken father of his boy killed by guilt-ridden hit and run driver played by Mark Ruffalo. Although this film has the potential to be emotionally heart wrenching from beginning to end, especially in scenes with the two father's wives (Jennifer Connelly and Mira Sorvino), the conclusion is brought to a sudden and swift ending through a series of almost unbelievable coincidences and a very disappointing ending that leaves it's audience thinking "What was that?" I really had high hopes for this film, especially considering its cast.
In fact, it is the cast that makes it worth watching but it left me sitting there just feeling that I was robbed of any kind of resolution. It gets 3 stars just for the acting. If you are a fan of these actresses and actors, give it a shot.
Otherwise, skip it.
