Review of Reservation Road (2007) by John H — 15 Mar 2010
The reason I chose to review this film right after reviewing REVOLUTIONARY ROAD is that everyone I suggest this movie to says "I've seen it and thought that it would be great because of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslett.
" Wrong movie. I thought this movie was really good and keeps the audience completely torn. The movie opens with Joaquin Pheonix and his family stopping at a service station/mini mart for a bathroom break.
Mark Ruffalo and his son happen to be driving by and, as fate would hate it, Ruffalo runs over Pheonix's son and kills him. Ruffalo is an attorney and immediately starts trying to cover-up the accident, but it's eating him alive.
It's also eating Pheonix alive as well and again as fate would have it they become aquaintances. What I really liked about this film is that I felt bad for both of the men. Ruffalo is not a bad guy, and decides he is going to turn himself in.
I'll stop right there because so much more happens. I know this film bombed in theatres and has gotten generally rotten reviews, but I thought the film was really good and the performances by Pheonix and Ruffalo superb.
So get ready to shoot me down guys, but I am only one man with one opinion and I really liked this movie. Much better than REVOLUTIONARY ROAD and so have several people I reccommended it to. Directed by Terry George.
Focus Features Rated R.
