Werner Herzog's film captures the lush Southeast Asian land, where one man's determination overcomes imprisonment, malnurishment, and the defeatism of his peers. a classic war flick, but one we've never seen, with the ring of truth.
Bale/Dingler's unflagging optimism seems superhuman, but must have been his ultimate salvation.
