Review of Rescue Dawn (2007) by Shawn M — 14 Jan 2009
The most personal account of the Vietnam war. This pace is brilliantly steady; the movie is like a marathon rather than a sprint. You find yourself exhausted like those in the POW camp. I mean this all as good things of course.
The performances are fantastic. Bale is, of course, excellent, but I loved Jeremy Davies's channeling of Charlie Manson as the most desperate of the prisoners. All in all, this movie is beautiful and tragic: just what you've come to expect from a Werner Herzog film.
Go see it! Go! Now!
