Review of Rescue Dawn (2007) by M D — 24 May 2009
Herzog takes great freedom in adapting an amazing true story of Dieter Dengler who escaped from Vietnamese prison camps on more than one occasion. Far too cinematic and polished for what should have been a gritty and subjective account of the hellish situation faced by prisoners, the film is much too clean with its crisp colors and smooth crane shots in the middle of the jungle.
While impressive amounts of weight were lost by main actors and director alike, the acting at times is just plain weird, casts an unnecessary and distracting tone, but provides a relatively good contrast for whatâ??s to come.
