Christian Bale proples this film to beyond your ordinary pow vietnam /rescue film with his solid acting. The story itself is rather pedestrian and not as strong as the classics such as "The Deer Hunter", yet is not a bad watch.
Yes, the story is a bit bleak and depressing, and the action is rather minimal, but Bale's character, while a bit quirky, is based on a real person and has an uplifting ending, which is not a bad thing.
