Review of Rescue Dawn (2007) by Gavin S — 24 Jan 2012
A fantastic real-life escape story of the only American to ever break out of a Laotian POW camp and survive the jungles to be rescued. Well-paced, well acted, with great performances from Bale, Zahn (he should get more dramatic roles, as he's clearly undervalued) and Davies (who looks perfect to play Charles Manson based on his appearance in this movie).
Shot in the actual jungles of Thailand, this feels about as authentic as one can imagine, and since Herzog directed a 1997 documentary with the actual Dieter Dengler, he knows the story and tells it very well and believably.
Well worth watching.
