The story of Dieter Dengler is one that is close to Werner Herzog's heart & you can tell while watching Rescue Dawn. Herzog tells the story realistically but spares us from some of the more horrifying details, without compromising the truth, because well it's still very horrifying.
Although I feel the handling of Gene DeBruin left a few pages unturned.
