Review of Requiem for a Dream (2000) by Russell V — 29 Jun 2012
A bleak, disturbing, depressing and uncompromising film about how drug addiction can ruin a person's sense of reality. I don't know how it feels to be a drug addict but this film just hits right into the gut as it becomes a harsh cautionary tale.
Its harrowing depiction of addicts and what it's like to be addicted is shown through Aronofsky's unique cinematography and the reality of it is backed up by the cast's very powerful performances, especially Ellen Burstyn.
A thoroughly emotional film.
