Review of Requiem for a Dream (2000) by Kali K — 27 May 2013

This movie is not pleasant. It is stark and almost excruciating, but that's how I know it is effective. It's not supposed to be a movie you want to watch over and over. It is, in my mind, a demonstration and a warning.

Here are four different people with drastically different backgrounds and personalities but all with the same problem. They're weak, but their separate inabilities to deal with their emotional problems cause them all to similarly spiral out of control due to addiction.

'Requiem for a Dream' is a cautionary tale and important film. It is a movie that you may not enjoy but need to see. Highly recommended.
