A masterpiece. Burstyn's performance felt questionable in the beginning, but proved to be a compelling powerhouse by the end. Aronofsky's direction created a disturbing, vivid, frightening, and sensational viewing experience.
The viewer almost feels the effects of some of the drugs taken by the characters. The film is a dark, surreal, and dramatic sensory overload. This devilish brew of horror, drama, avant-garde surrealism, dark comedy, and crippling tragedy is not for the faint-hearted.
This is NOT just a stupid anti-drug film.
