Review of Requiem for a Dream (2000) by Dave J — 18 Jun 2013
It's the worst I felt after a film in a very long while.
Brilliant screenplay and the depth of the characters are very well carried.
Bringing the diet pills story together with the typical heroin storyline adds great depth to the theme of addiction and obsession.
Enjoyed the style of the director a lot, the extremely short shots and split screens are pretty cool.
Despite it being a great film, I probably won't be recommending it to anyone. I've seen heavy films before, but this leaves me screaming internally and feeling mighty horrible. Totally agree to the RT commentary, 'too intense for some to stomach, wonderful performances and bleak imagery'.
