Review of Requiem for a Dream (2000) by Joshua W — 12 Jun 2013
"Requiem for a Dream" is an amazing film, both morally and aesthetically. Although, it's also extremely disturbing for the first time viewer and still disturbing to this day. It's brutal honesty, but even though the story and depictions are so explicit, they are necessary.
People NEED to see this. If not to scare you out of ever touching a needle, at least watch this for it's beautifully haunting and cohesive score, creative camera techniques, and amazing acting. All around the film deserves much more appreciation than it is given and should have earned more from the academy.
Every performance is worthy of its own praise. I've seen this movie only 3 times because it leaves me so sad that I refuse to watch it over and over, but it's so powerful and brilliant that I remember it as if I watch it every day.
Which isn't bad at all. One of my all time favorite films.
