Review of Repulsion (1965) by Saurabh S — 13 Oct 2008
Definitely a slow burn and not something I'd really classify as horror -- it's most certainly a thriller. Catherine Deneuve is stunning and turns in a riveting performance. Roman Polanski's direction and subtlety are powerful in this film, which would've suffered in less capable hands.
Surprisingly frank about sexual matters, especially given the time period -- this really is a film about sex, about the repression of fantasy and the fear of expected gender roles. A complex bit of cinema that certainly won't be liked by all, but which is, nevertheless, fascinating.
