Review of Repulsion (1965) by Carfax A — 28 Aug 2009
Want to watch someone go quietly mad?...hearing voices, hallucinating, feeling like bugs are crawling over you and the urge to put animal organs in your purse...then Repulsion is the movie....This is a great Roman Polanski flick from the 60's. Itâ??s a disturbing character piece of a young woman that goes insane in her apt while her sister is away on holiday. Though it is never really brought out in the movie, I assume the woman was inflicted with schizophrenia. We see everything that she is suffering in her mind, just like she would see it...Polanski does not try and make her madness seem dream like, but exactly is as real as her mind views it....For instance, see starts looking at the walls of her apt, and these huge cracks just appear with a crazy ripping noise....and we see this like its real and not a hallucination, though we know it is...
Her madness takes her to the extreme of schizophrenia with bloody chaos, murder, mutilation of ones self and a desire for rabbit stew..
So put away the those anti- psychosis medicines and get out the knifes and enjoy this romp through a mind of Repulsion....
