Review of Repulsion (1965) by Kapil B — 15 May 2012
I think this is one of the creepiest visions of madness ever put on a film, The film slowly draws you into the mentally crumbling world of its beautiful but deeply disturbed protagonist, Carol. They say it is the best Polanski film and weren't they right.
The way Polanski makes dripping water, ticking clocks, buzzing flies, clanging bells, ringing telephones and the distant playing of piano scales seem so disturbing is absolutely brilliant. Add to it the creepy expressionistic visual effects of the rotten food and the cracks in the well.
A must watch for every cinema lover.
