Review of Repulsion (1965) by Alan J — 13 May 2010
For its time in the mid 60s was considered a groundbreaking film with its shocking theme, etc. Compared to todays film offerings, this movie now seems pretty tame. The story tends to drag and as Polanski later commented, the character Ms.
Deneuve portrays (and quite well at that) was mad to begin with; there is not much further descent except that brought upon herself imposed seclusion in the apartment. She is psychotic to begin with, however no explanation as to why.
The camera work is excellent and the film is worth a watch. I believe "the tenant" is a superior film and has some dark comedy added which keeps the viewer a bit more involved.
