Review of Repulsion (1965) by Tavia H — 19 Jul 2010
A paranoid, virginal nymphet spends a surreal few days home alone. That's the basic plot of Polanski's repulsion. The film isn't about a plot though; it's about the atmosphere. Polanski puts us inside Deneuve's character's mind, a frightening and confusing world where solid structures crack apart and every male is a potential rapist.
It's frightening and shocking, although a bit emotionally distant.
