Review of Reprise (2006) by Robbie M — 13 Sep 2008
Whiffs of Godard and Richard Lester. The film is well-made; the weaknesses lie in the storytelling. It's ostensibly about a friendship, but we're given a narrow, peephole view; the characters' individual stories were more compelling than the one they shared.
On that side of things, a bone: If Phillip's love for Kari was so intense it drove him out of his head, I saw no evidence of it. I think, rather, he got a shattering blow to his noggin when he got hit by the car.
And since there really is little story here, I feel I can make my own embellishments. Best done is the portrayal of the endeavors we make toward idealized love even in the face of evidence that the outcome is likely to be otherwise.
