Review of Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008) by Jonny G — 14 Jun 2011
This film obviously falls into the category of a "cult film", as in many people hate it, but its fans absolutely love it. I happen to be one of those fans. Not only is the story cool, a future dystopia in which organs are financed (and repossessed), but the characters are all unique and well developed.
The story is actually pretty touching if you can get past the gore, and the music is pretty awesome. To me, film comes down to a matter of opinion and it's simple as that. Movies are a form of entertainment, and not everyone is entertained by the same thing.
Before you go and shit talk everyone who liked the movie, let me point out that being a "professional" movie critic is, at least in my opinion, impossible. Entertainment is measured in its value on a person to person basis.
I don't like Justin Bieber, but my 12 year old sister does, and that's ok. Anyways, back to the review, this was one of few movies that sent shivers through me at a few parts, and I really enjoyed it.
For those of you wary about watching due to mixed reviews, give it a shot. This happens to be one of those things that you either love it or hate it and there's no gray area,.
