Review of Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008) by Sam C — 10 Jun 2012
I've been waiting for this movie for over a year, mainly for Nivek Ogre's presence, only to find out that we never see his face or hear him sing in that all too familiar voice I've come to love from his band Skinny Puppy and ohGr. If you like movies ranging from Saw 2 to Saw 5 then you'll dig this.
Like my friend Joseph Sylvers pointed out, "Not Rocky Horror, or even Sweeny Todd, but not the worst movie of the year, as it's been an easy target for." this movie could have been lauded as a piece of crap, but the wacky premise keeps it afloat. I really wanted to like this movie, but I had such a hard time. For every good song there were about three-to-four that ranged from mediocre to terrible. And, like all of Bousman's films, their's barely any lighting and sometimes it was hard for me to pick out the glossy figures in a dark-as-shit environment.
Supposedly this is going to be the second installment in a proposed trilogy, so it will be interesting to see what happens with it.
