Review of Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008) by Alex B — 04 Sep 2012

I liked it a lot, sure the story wasn't great, and it didn't make a lot of sense, but look at the creator (enough said). What it does well is entertain, if you go into it without expectations and expecting nothing then I think that's the best frame of mind, since that's what you'll get.

While watching it I got a strong sense of self-realization, meaning that the film knew exactly who it was and what it wanted to do. It wasn't trying to make a statement (and if you thought it was then you missed out on the joke), nor was it looking to win a Tony even though the music was rather good for the most part (that really surprised me the most).

It's campy and fun, and there is more than enough gore to add to the absurdity. Just remember what you signed up for; Repo: The Genetic Opera, how can you think that its trying to take itself seriously? Oh and be sure to look out for typos, there is one or two in the film during the comic strip moment.

The best attribute this film has is that it was rather unique in a world of imitators, and that's more than enough to get my attention.
