Review of Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008) by Logan S — 04 Mar 2013
Set design is pretty cool... but the story feels waaaaaay too short to fit the runtime. Also, while there are a couple of okay songs in the soundtrack, a lot of the musical numbers felt forced (looking at you, "Seventeen").
The characters aren't that well-developed, which is a travesty considering we've had about 100 minutes to get to know the characters. The story feels very schizophrenic and unsure as to whether it wants to be a horrific gorefest or a bloody dark comedy.
I can understand why it has a following, but this film just doesn't do it for me. I love horror, and I love musicals, but this one feels like a mess. See "Rocky Horror" or "Phantom of the Paradise" for a good blend of horror, camp, and music.
