Review of Repo Men (2010) by Michael V — 16 Nov 2011
These are the kind of movies that made me love Jude Law in the first place. The odd, twisted, and strange roles or projects that he first came in the scene with. He's strayed from that path for a while with very disappointing results.
Glad to see you back. And you can tell by his performance he missed the hell out of it. And thats pretty much the only good thing I have to say. Except the violence and gore is just as fun to watch. Now they started the foundation of this world as a rip off of Repo! the Genetic Opera.
But who knows maybe this screenplay was written well before the stage performance was and it just had the bad luck of being made after. Now after the taking back organs that people can't afford is established they went off in different directions.
But while Repo! went off to continue being original Repo Men went off to take elements from every other SciFi movie made. You have snips of Brazil, Logan's Run, Blade Runner (though the Home again home again jiggitiy jig made laugh), and even the (I want to say Thai film) Oldboy with the corridor fight scene complete with the use of a carpenters hammer.
I really would have liked to see this movie made again with the hands of a different director. It's not horrible but you won't be upset if you missed it either. I'll take this over The Island any day.
