Effortlessly cool, punky movie inspired by "Kiss Me Deadly" and countless 1950s Cold War/atomic age B Movies with its scientists, spies and gangsters on the trail of some hot property, and Emilio Estevez's slacker as the poor scmuck who gets dragged into the world of repo men, amazing to think that in a year he would be the obnoxious jock in "The Breakfast Club" and be the star of "D2 The Mighty Ducks" not once but twice a decade later.
Harry Dean Stanton is suitably zoned and deadpan as the dude who ropes Emilio into the world of repo man, and Sy Richardson is zen-like and provides the utterance that "Life is always intense as a repo man, but only a fool gets killed for a car!".
The music soundtrack is the business, featuring all the great Californian punk bands (Black Flag, Suicidal Tendencies, etc.) and a kicking theme song by Iggy Pop (music-only on the film itself, but in all its "looking for the joke with a microscope" glory on the soundtrack album).
Punk Dick Rude is a hoot at the skinhead with a suburban side (his acting chops are used more strongly in "Straight To Hell"), and Zander Schloss is a prototype Napoleon Dynamite!
