Review of Repo Man (1984) by Christian B — 07 Dec 2011
An impressively bizarre effort from Alex Cox and Co. that pitches an arrogant young Punk (Estevez) against everyone and everything, in a chase movie that grows more and more absurd as events draw on. Harry Dean Stanton is awesome in a lead role he thoroughly owns, utterly convincing as a greedy Reposession-Man who's moral code binds him faithfully to his job, even when the next job might be a car that is transporting a highly lethal U.
F.O. For all it's glowing cars and peroxide agents, what ultimately surprised me however, was the sheer off-beat nature of the script, the rye, intelligent humour and the generally great performances.
This might be a cheesy 80's Sci-Fi surrealist adventure, but it surprisingly has some fairly unpredictable moments... enough to make this worth a watch despite it's cult status.
