Review of Renegade (2004) by Bill D — 25 Aug 2017
Renegade was an awesome movie with brilliant, psychedelic special effects and a unique, multi-layered story. On the surface, we see the tale of a white sheriff who manages the delicate peace between a frontier town and the local native tribe who cared for him after a violent encounter with an outlaw.
Beneath the surface is a profound look at discovering one's identity and the balance between practicality and morality, told during the protagonist's adventure fighting his subconscious demons with the aid of a Native American medicine man - a trek that ultimately crescendos in possibly the most beautifully detailed depictions of a psychedelic vision quest ever drawn out on film.
