Review of Rendition (2007) by Trent J — 25 Apr 2009
By dipping its fingers into every perspective of an "extraordinary rendition," the film is doing too little with a heavy subject. It's forcing itself to focus on characters (Streep's CIA boss and Witherspoon's concerned wife) who may be linked to fascinating circumstances, but that's just it: they are linked, not involved.
The clever narrative twist in Act 3 deserves high marks, but it regrettably leads to the trite post-9/11 cinematic message: "violence begets violence.".
