Review of Rendition (2007) by Earl H — 08 Aug 2009
A post 9/11 political thriller that explores the practice of 'extraordinary rendition' from different view points. This film does make you ponder about the concept of 'torture in our name' but I think it would be stronger if it had a more believable storyline. I think this largely falls down to Reese Witherspoon who, whilst very sweet, seems to be providing the token American female character than an effective dramatization device.
"The dispiriting cold truth is that the post-9/11 films we've seen so far have struggled, in any real sense, to enter the national bloodstream, the collective conversation. Which raises the question: These days, when a message movie falls in the forest, does it make a sound?" Own Glieberman.
This was ok, but it could have been more. Nice play on timing and generally strong acting though.
